My therapeutic style

Working with me is a bit like hanging out with a friend who just happens to know a whole lot about ways we humans learn and grow and evolve (and who is one of the best listeners you’ve ever met). I see part of my job as offering a variety of tools that I know can help people, inviting you to choose which tool sounds most likely to work for you, and then cheering you on as you try and fail and feel and change. I see another part of my job as providing a profoundly safe space for you to hear your own body, emotions, and spirit speaking to you. One of my gifts is seeing connections that aren’t always readily apparent, so when it feels helpful I’ll offer a different perspective for you to consider.

I like to keep it informal - as we’re tramping through the forest or throwing rocks in the creek, you’ll definitely see my authentic human side. I love inviting nature to be an ally in therapy - there is great wisdom to be learned from the rivers, rocks, and trees if we slow down enough to listen. I consider it a sacred privilege to receive and hold people’s stories, and I also fervently believe that if we’re going to talk about the really difficult stuff, we may as well have as much fun as possible while we’re doing it. On some days, snowballs are the most therapeutic intervention anyone could provide!

Note

My practice cannot meet the high acuity needs of those who are actively suicidal, homicidal, have untreated substance addiction, active eating disorders, are living in a domestic violence situation, have needed psychiatric hospitalization in the past year or who need a legal evaluation for disability, custody, or court-ordered treatment.
